Final Reflections...

Take some time to reread through all of the different blog posts.  Even from last semester.  What has changed in your thinking about the teaching of reading?  What role does it play in your everyday teaching?  What will you continue to do that you were not doing before?  This reflection can take on the form of anything you want to be shared with the class.  Doing a quick write here will give you a sense of what it is you want to remember from this work.

CONFERRING

Hello Writers!

It has been fun to sit down and confer with many of you!  Be sure to bring your writing to class as we will be meeting in our triads and this will be your chance to get more feedback on your writing.  For this blog I am going to suggest that you again take some time to browse through the DVD and focus on conferring.  What do you notice about conferring that is something you could try with your students or your fellow triad members?  Blog about what you notice and what you can take from it.

In Chapter 6 Tovani talks about setting a very specific purpose for instruction and outcomes.  How do you do this with your students?  What role does purpose take in your planning and teaching of lessons?  How do you determine purpose?

In Chapter 7 Tovani talks about holding one's thinking.  What are some strategies you have used to "hold" the thinking of your students?

Reflections on Chapters 5 and 7.  Is your thinking about the teaching of reading changing?  If so how?  What do you think about in your teaching now that you did not think about before?  If these questions do not "speak" to you then you can write your own reflections...

Choose a line from your reading and write to it.  Remember it is wise to write in word first and the copy in paste just in case.  What does this line make you think about?  What have you found in  your reading that applies to your students and how can you use it effectively?
